KATHERINE THE WELDER
Katherine Britting is a welder at Newport News Shipbuilding which is the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy submarines. Katherine started her career as a welder through the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School. “I only wish I had started sooner!” she says, “I like the science behind it, the science and the power of actually being able to do something that so few people can actually do.”
